CASH @ OLIVER'S TWIST

Cash is a young urban artist currently living in Bonney Lake, WA. He has been painting since he was a junior in high school. During his senior year, he studied Mexican folk art, as well as color theory, and basic design with a private tutor in Tacoma. Cash has taken what he has learned from his tutor and branched out into graffiti and street art.
The current collection of paintings shows Cash’s interest in anything vintage. These paintings represent the process of change that takes place, bridging the gap between old and new.

MICHELLE ANDERST AND THE MUSIC OF GREYFACE

-OPENS: Thursday, September 11th
-CLOSES: October 7th 2008
-WHERE: Twilight in the Junction, 4306 SW Alaska St
-MORE: Meet the Artist, and enjoy vino and cupcakes on us! ALSO live music by Greyface

ABOUT MICHELLE
Realist painter Michelle Anderst's works on canvas focusing on solitary figures, anatomy and industrial imagery such as telephone poles, glass, and run down spaces. The work is filled with an intensity of color and subject that creates an instant feeling of intimacy with the viewer. Her imagery is directly influenced from growing up as an only child where she spent most of her time drawing her surroundings and poring over her fathers anatomy books.
The attachment to the house she grew up in has begun an exploration of the concept of a residence becoming a part of a persons psyche. The imagery of peeling wallpaper, old anatomy illustrations and empty structures allows a comparison between the psychological structure of a person and the physical structure of a building.

After graduating from Southern Oregon School of Fine Art in 2004, Michelle Anderst moved to Seattle, WA to pursue her career in Fine art. Her work is said to be very 'Seattle' because of her depiction of raindrops on windows and industrial scenes, which look as if they were painted on a cloudy day (because they probably were).

TWILIGHT IS LOOKING FOR A FEW RADICAL INTERNS!

Our beloved summer intern Connor Dodd will be leaving us at the end of the month to return to Savannah College of Art and Design. We will need to take on two, if not 3 or 8, interns to fill his big old shoes ;).

Some intern responsibilities include:
~Manning our Pike Place Gallery 2-3 days per week from 11 AM-5 PM.
~Attending and assisting with our monthly art openings, which take place during the second Thursday of each month from 6-9PM in West Seattle during the Art Walk. ~Participate in quarterly brain hurricanes where we get together with like-minded galleries (Bherd, Suite100, La Familia Gallery, and Artifakt) to strategize.
~We would also be willing to give web management, marketing, funding and outreach experience to interested candidates.

An ideal Twilight intern has; a true passion for the funky, urban & eclectic art scene here in Seattle, is self-motivated, articulate, charismatic and most importantly fun. If you’re interested in becoming an intern, please send a cover letter and a one-page resume to info@twilightart.net with “intern” in the header.

Summer Fest & Art Dive!

THANKS TO EVERYONE who came out & supported Art Dive @ West Seattle Summer Fest last weekend! The Art Dive tent was chalked full of awesome local fine art for sale, and was received extremely well by locals and Junction businesses. We kicked off the weekend festivities with the July Art Walk on Thursday night ~ our featured artists Soule, Ninjagrl, Soopajdelux & OneSevenNine rocked it & put together a really great display of work. Come check out their paintings in the upstairs gallery through the month! ALSO, Soopajdelux (the 1 & only Jenna Colby) live-painted on a 4'x5' canvas ~ she's got a day or two left, then it will be ready to sell! 50% of the profit will go to Northwest Animal Rights Network... buy a radical original painting AND help the fuzzies! The painting is sitting on an easel in the gallery this very second, so come by & sneak a peek of her work-in-progress.

Hugs & kisses to Kim McCarthy (Soule) & Michelle Smith-Lewis for being our trusty Art Dive managers for the weekend! You rock our socks!

We'll be continuing the Art Dive theme ~ possibly later this year during the holidays, and again for Summer Fest 2009... so if you're interested in getting the info, make sure you're on our Twilight Newsletter list (you can add yourself on our "Contact" page ).

If you sadly missed out on the Summer Fest fun ~ ART GALORE, grub, live music, Lion Dances, etc. ~ dry your eyes. We put the P in party, so stay tuned for our next event!

See you soon!
XO,
TwAC
